WATCH: Clinton Makes Case For Obama In New Ad

The Obama campaign is out with a new ad today featuring former President Bill Clinton urging a second term for President Obama.

The ad, titled “Clear Choice, will run in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Nevada, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.

“This is a clear choice,” Clinton says directly into the camera. “The Republican plan is to cut more taxes on upper income people and go back to deregulation. That’s what got us in trouble in the first place.”

“President Obama has a plan to rebuild America from the ground up, investing in innovation, education, and job training,” Clinton continues. “That’s what happened when I was president. We need to keep going with his plan.”

The 30 second spot — which is unique among Obama’s recent ads in that it does not menton Mitt Romney by name — underscores the popular Clinton’s value as a campaign surrogate. It may also serve as a preview of Clinton’s upcoming speech at the Democratic National Convention, in which he will formally nominate Obama for re-election.

The ad also serves as a direct rebuke to Romney, who has spent much of the campaign accusing Obama of abandoning Clinton’s policies and ideals. As Jamelle Bouie put it in The American Prospect, “the obvious problem with this strategy is that Clinton is still alive. And more important, he’s still engagedin politics.” The more active that Clinton is in the campaign, the harder it will be for Romney to cite him in attacks against Obama, and to claim that he is the true heir to Clinton’s legacy.

With little more than six months until Election Day, Donald Trump is preparing for an “authoritarian” presidency, and a massive, multi-million dollar operation called Project 2025, organized by The Heritage Foundation and headed by a former top Trump White House official, is proposing what it would like to be his agenda.
